Village of Monee Weather Event Sheltering Notice

In the event of a severe weather event, the Village of Monee has designated a shelter location for resident safety.

Shelter Activation Guidelines

Authority to Activate Shelter
The shelter will be opened at the discretion of the Village Administrator or a public safety staff member from EMA, Police, or Fire.
Storm Risk Level Requirement
The shelter will be activated anytime the Storm Risk is at or above Level 4, as determined by the National Weather Service.
- Important: The shelter may not be activated when outdoor warning sirens are triggered by outside agencies and Village staff is not in place.
Notification of Shelter Activation
Shelter opening notifications will be made available via:
- The Village of Monee Facebook page
- The Village website at villageofmonee.org
- The “Notify Me” alert system available on the Village website

Staffing During Activation
When the shelter is open, Village staff will be available on-site to assist residents.
Extended Emergency Shelter Support
Monee Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and the American Red Cross will oversee any long-term sheltering, if necessary.

To receive weather and shelter alerts through the Village’s “Notify Me” system:

Step-by-Step:

Visit villageofmonee.org on your computer or mobile device.
On the home page, find the bold text that says “Sign Up for Alerts.” Click on it.
Enter your email address and click “Notify Me Sign In.”
Choose your preferred method of communication:
- To receive email notifications, select the envelope icon.
- To receive text message alerts, check the box that says “I would like to receive text messages on my mobile phone,” then enter your cell phone number and click “Save.”
After saving your information, choose which alerts you want to receive.
- For shelter notifications and weather advisories, select “EMA Alerts.”
Confirm your subscription by responding to the confirmation message sent to your email or phone.
